Equipment / Software:
- Cinelerra: The Movie Studio in a Linux Box
It's not Final Cut Pro, but it is close and it is free.
- Contour ShuttlePro2
To make editing on a computer more like using an old-fashioned edit bay.
It doesn't work out of the box with Linux or Cinelerra, but is
configurable.
- cshuttle.c: Use Contour ShuttlePro with Cinelerra
This is a single purpose tool that I wrote based on Arendt David's
cshuttle.c program to map the Contour device to my needs. I fixed a
serious bug in the way it handles the centering shuttle wheel and
switched to a table driven output for the buttons. I also made it
grab exclusive access to the USB device to avoid any problems with
the HID interface.
- Gizmod: Input device mapping
Remap user interface devices to work with any program, especially Cinelerra.
You will need this
patch for gizmod-2.2
to use the ShuttlePro 2 with it and this gizmod
configuration file for Cinelerra. The recent 2.2 branch has moved to
using Python for everything and is beyond complicated to configure, so
instead I'm using the single purpose tool.
- XL1-S forums
- LaTeX Film document class
I tried using tools like Celtx
and Storyboard,
but found them too jaring from the text-only world
in which I am accustomed to working. By using
LaTeX
as a typesetter, I can continue to use my
favorite text editor
and CVS to track changes.
Tips:
- Render with Quicktime for Linux, video compression MPEG-4 and
audio compression MPEG-4. Roughly 10 MB/minute for a 480P video.
- Editing with Cinelerra
